MEALS
A nourishing, well-balanced diet is an important part of healing. Lourdes Medical Center makes every effort to provide nutritious, delicious meals prepared according to your doctor’s orders. You will receive a menu on your daily breakfast tray for the next day. A dietary aide will pick up
your completed menu at noon. If your physician has placed you on a restricted diet, you will receive menus tailored to your specific needs. If you have special dietary needs or would like to speak with a dietician, ask your nurse to have a dietician visit you. Guest trays are available for a nominal fee, but please notify your nurse as early as possible that you may need a guest tray. If you would like a snack between meals, please speak with your nurse. Patient meals are generally served at the following times:
Breakfast - 7:00 am
Lunch - 11:30 am
Dinner - 5:00 pm
PARKING
All parking is free to visitors of Lourdes Medical Center. There are three designated areas for visitor parking: in front of the main LMC entrance, directly across 4th Avenue, and on the North side of LMC. For emergency room visitors, a designated parking lot is available just outside the Emergency Room entrance. Handicapped parking is available in all parking areas around the facility.
INTERPRETIVE SERVICES
If you, a family member or other guest has special communication needs such as interpreting services, please tell your admitting representative.
NEWSPAPER
The Tri-City Herald is available at the information desk in the main lobby.
VALUABLES
We advise you to leave cash, credit cards and jewelry at home as we cannot be responsible for the security of each room. If you cannot do so, please ask your nurse to place your personal belongings in the hospital safe. Eyeglasses, dentures and hearing aids require special care. Ask a nurse for a denture cup and take care not to leave these items on your meal tray or lying on your bed, as they may become damaged or lost.
If you misplace personal belongings, check with your nurse immediately or contact Housekeeping by dialing (509) 546-2276.
CLOTHING
You will probably be more comfortable in your own pajamas, slippers and bathrobe. However, we will provide these items if you need them.
MEDICATIONS
Please bring a list of current mediations and dosages you’re taking. Do not bring the medication with you unless instructed to do so by your physician and checked by a pharmacist. For your safety, the hospitals pharmacy will provide all the medications your physician prescribes.
MAIL
Patient mail is distributed to your room as early as possible each day. If you wish to send mail, your nurse will send it out for you. Stamps are available in the gift shop.
PATIENT SATISFACTION SURVEY
Lourdes mails a questionnaire to many patients after they go home. It asks your opinion of the care, meals, cleanliness, admitting and discharge process. Your answers help us see our services through the patient’s eyes and will help us make changes to improve our services. We ask that you please fill out the questionnaire and send it back.
RETURNING HOME
Lourdes staff will be planning for your discharge as soon as you arrive – it’s a process that begins at the time of admission and continues throughout your hospital stay.
When your physician has determined that you have sufficiently recovered, a discharge order will be written. Instructions and information regarding after hospital care will be provided to you. If there are any remaining forms to be signed, you will be directed where you will need to go. Do not be surprised if the discharge process takes several hours. It is an important step in your overall care.
When you are ready to leave, a staff member will escort you to the main entrance. Most patients are discharged before noon. It is, therefore, a good idea to make transportation arrangements to leave LMC during the morning hours.
Before you leave the hospital ask about follow-up care and make sure that you understand all of the instructions. If you have special needs, a discharge planner will help you make plans. They can help arrange homecare, hospice, short term rehabilitation, long term care, assisted living, retirement homes and more.
